Happy National Private Investigator Day!
Every year on July 24th, Private Investigators recognize National Private Investigator (PI) Day. It marks a special time where the contributions of licensed Private Investigators get recognition for their contributions to our communities and social fabric. It’s also an important opportunity to demonstrate the value that professionals in this field bring to the public they serve. Investigative services and the highly-trained men and women who conduct them are vital to our society today, and has been throughout history.
The date of July 24th commemorates the birth year of Eugene Francois Vidocq, the first Private Investigator to operate what would evolve into the modern detective agency, starting in 1833. He has received credit for significantly influencing the way investigations and law enforcement work operate today.
Today there are more than 80,000 Private Investigator professionals throughout the United States who celebrate this cherished holiday. Many of their international peers and colleagues will join them in this historically important day within the field of Private Investigation. At NITA, we would like to tell everyone who has made a commitment to serve as licensed Private Investigators, THANK YOU. Without your dedication to training and public service, the world would not be the place we enjoy today.
The Role of Private Investigators in Society Today
A Private Investigator operates within a scope of services that varies greatly but focuses on professionalism, discretion, and thoroughness while observing the law. Throughout an Investigator’s career, they may work with important organizations, such as:
- Law enforcement
- Insurance companies

From background checks to helping prevent fraud and abuse, their ability to help find answers and investigate through channels not normally available to the public make them invaluable.
