Investigative Student Spotlight - Susan Sheets
We would love to introduce to you our most recent student spotlight, Susan Sheets.
As an 8-year-old child, Susan loved watching detective shows and her passion for the investigative industry started at a young age. At that time, the industry was mostly male-dominated, and her family told her not to pursue the PI life since she was a girl. Years later, she has put this love of investigations and research to use and is learning all she can about the industry to grow a childhood passion into a career.
We took time to catch up with Susan to discuss her career and online experience at NITA. Here is a highlight of our call:
Tell us about yourself and your career path: Currently, Susan is a process server and works for an attorney and wants to further pursue a career as a licensed Investigator. Susan’s early career was based in California as a news writer and then she took time away from the hustle of her career to raise her family. During this time, Susan worked with victims of sex trafficking and encouraged at-risk teens. From her time working with youth, Susan saw the need to seek justice for others and has pursued her love for investigations to become a licensed PI.
What is the best part of working in the investigative field? As we talked to Susan, she discussed the need, and also the advantage, of being a woman in this field. Susan is considering a career in Executive Protection and loves the versatility of the roles she can engage in during protection services. As well as she also loves teaching.
What career advice would you impart to future Investigators? Susan found investigations as a second career and would advise future investigators to “go for it.” She loves that this industry has no age limit. “If you are willing to put in the work, anyone can work as an investigator – any age, anytime.”
You have several options for online training, why did you choose NITA? When enrolled in a public defender investigative training program, a friend of Susan’s referred her to NITA. Susan stated, “NITA takes training to the next level it was a great experience with a great education. I learned more than expected.”
How was your NITA experience? “My training and NITA experience were stress-free!” Susan let us know that the best part was the ease of use and navigation of NITA’s site and she enjoyed the benefits of online learning. She could study on her schedule!
Would you recommend NITA to others? “Yes. It was a great experience.”
