Hawaii Private Investigators are regulated by the State of Hawaii, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. For additional information about state regulations, procedures, and training requirements, click here.

Licensing Laws
In Hawaii, Private Investigators must be licensed from the Board of Private Detective and Guards.  In Hawaii, you will need to pass an examination for Principal/Sole Proprietor for agency and have four (4) years of experience  or without experience, 8 hours of instruction is required.

State Exam
The Hawaii Private Investigator exam consists of 80 questions and takes roughly 90 minutes to complete.
