Licensing Laws
In Ohio, Private Investigators are licensed under The Ohio Private Investigation & Security Services Commission and Ohio Revised Code Section 4749.01.

Private investigation and security services providers in Ohio are required by law to obtain a license from the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) Private Investigator Security Guard Services (PISGS). There are three types of licenses:

Class A – Private Investigation & Security Services

Class B – Private Investigation

Class C – Security Services

  • 2 years experience needed for all above

State Exam
The State of Ohio Private Investigator exam consists of 55 questions and takes roughly one hour to complete.
