Illinois Private Investigator

Training Requirements

Licensing Laws
In Illinois, Private Investigators must be licensed under Detective Act – 225 IFCS 447.  To become a PI, you must pass state-administered exam and have three (3) years of experience OR degree and 1 year of experience.  If you don't have experience, employee 20 hours of training is required.

State Exam
The Illinois Private Investigator exam consists of 75 questions and takes roughly 90 minutes to complete.
