We had the opportunity to chat with James, who prefers to go by Dalton. A recent NITA graduate, Dalton shared his experiences with NITA’s online program for Private Investigators.
What sparked your interest in private investigations?
I went to college not really knowing what I wanted to do, but I fell into the criminal justice field. My parents and cousins are all veterans, so it felt like a natural path. When I went through college, the field of private investigations was not initially on my radar. My cousin’s uncle has been a Private Investigator for close to 30 years in Mississippi, so he was the closest connection to PI work. I did some more research on criminal investigations and I learned it was a subject area that I really enjoyed, so I decided to pursue it further.
What do you find most interesting about the field?
I’m a hands-on person and I like to be on my feet. I know there is a lot more to learn and experience, aside from just taking notes. As an investigator, each day is different and you never know exactly what you’re going to expect. I am really looking forward to pursuing a dynamic career path in a field that is constantly evolving.
How did you hear about NITA?
After deciding that private investigations was something I hoped to explore further, I decided it was time to research my options. In doing so, I learned that nearly every class in Florida would require me to drive somewhere, which would not be exceptionally convenient for my geographic location. I was trying to keep my options open, but knew it wasn’t realistic for me to drive an extensive commute each day. As I stumbled upon NITA’s program, I was able to read first-hand accounts of others who had already completed the program. I knew the online aspect of NITA’s program would be a value-add for me as I honed in my skills.
Would you recommend NITA’s online training program to others?
Absolutely, without a doubt! The course itself was easily laid out and all expectations were clearly articulated. I knew exactly what I needed to do to succeed in the course. Moreover, I was able to study at my own pace and take five minute breaks as needed. I am a multi-tasker, so the course was structured in a way that allowed me to learn on my own time. In certain instances, I was able to complete a section with enough time to go back to review my notes and fully digest the material. Sandra was especially helpful in answer my questions and super responsive in our communication with one another. I would definitely recommend NITA’s online courses!
