Live Instructor Online Training

Instructor-Led Required 40 hours of training is conducted via NITA’s platform and led by experienced instructors. Students can interact with their FL DI Licensed instructor, asking questions, chatting via a secure platform, and engaging with other students as needed.

NITA is an approved DS School (DS#3000086) offering the required training in accordance with F.S. 493 and FAC 5N-1.140 in order to apply for your Florida D License as a Security Officer.

Course Requirements

  • Complete 40 hours of course instruction
  • Successfully pass the end-of-course examination with a 75% or higher score
  • Computer and Internet access with video and audio capabilities
  • U.S state or federal-issued photo identification. This will need to be uploaded to your student portal and presented daily during attendance
  • Mandatory attendance for 40 hours and exam completion

Course Outcome

Upon successful completion of this training, the student can apply for the Florida Security D license. NITA will issue the certificate of completion (form # FDACS 16103) to the student and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Additional Course Details

Courses will be offered in several options:

  • A week-long session to include 40+ hours over 5 days, offered every week (9:00 AM - 5:50 PM EST)
  • An evening session offered for 4 hours each evening for two weeks (6:00 PM - 10:10 PM EST), and we will not meet on the weekends.

Students will participate via a secure platform, guided by a Florida DI-licensed instructor. Topics cover a wide variety of industry subjects and follow the training guidelines outlined in Florida Administrative Code 5N-1.140.

Jeff Dingle

Florida Security D Instructor - License # DI 3300200

Jeff Dingle has worked many high-level careers including as a Special Agent/Criminal Investigator with the US Department of Defense National Security Agency, as Director, Protective Operations for the Office of former US President Jimmy Carter, and Corporate Security Manager for the corporate headquarters of Home Depot. Jeff has co-authored and published two security-related books, and published over 100 articles in security, law enforcement, and trade magazines.

Ryan Burke

Florida Security D Instructor - License # DI 3000132

Ryan Burke, owner of Cornerstone Protective Services, holds multiple Florida security licenses (D, G, DI, MB, B #3000236). A decorated Air Force Security Police veteran, Ryan served in Operation Desert Storm/Southern Watch and Operation Enduring Freedom in Kosovo. His disciplined, team-oriented approach is informed by his military experience. Ryan holds a range of certifications, including NRA Range Safety Officer, Active Shooter Trainer, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.

Bill Ricca

Florida Security D Instructor - License # DI 3400236

Bill Ricca holds multiple licenses in the state of Florida, including his class D, class G and DI Instructor's license. During his career, Bill served for 34 years in law enforcement with the NYPD and Northport (NY) Police Department. At his retirement in 2019, he was the Chief of Department at the Northport PD. He holds over 50 Law Enforcement certifications, and units that he either worked or supervised in include: Patrol, K9, Training, Special Operations, Narcotics, Marine and Investigations.

Gary Williams

Florida Security D Instructor - License # DI 1600224

Gary Williams spent over 30 years in law enforcement, reaching the rank of Special Agent in California. Throughout his distinguished career, Gary worked with agencies including the U.S. Department of State, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security, and trained officers across the U.S., Canada, and Central America. After retiring from law enforcement, Gary joined Walt Disney World’s Security Department, earning his Class D and DI licenses, and advanced to lead security training programs, including workplace violence prevention.

Are NITA courses Board and State-Approved?

Yes, NITA's courses are state and board-approved by each state's licensing entity in over 35 states.  Board-approved course offerings, where applicable by state, include pre-licensing training and continuing education.

Is NITA’s training completed entirely online, or are there in-person requirements?

NITA's courses are 100% online.  There are no in-person classes or physical attendance requirements. All classes are on-demand, except for our Florida Security trainings and our live, instructor-led trainings, which are online through Zoom. Everything you need to complete your training is available through our online learning platform.

What requirements are needed to begin a course with NITA?

All students need to begin a NITA course is an email address and an internet connection! We will send you enrollment and course information via the email you provide after checkout. 
What do I receive when I complete the course?

Upon successfully completing the course and passing the exam, NITA will issue you a Certificate of Completion. This certificate is typically required as part of your state license application. Details on how your certificate is delivered are included in each course description.
Can I take a NITA course if I have no prior experience in investigations or security?

Absolutely. NITA's pre-licensing courses are designed for people entering the field for the first time. No prior experience is required. The curriculum is built to take you from the basics through everything you need to meet your state's licensing requirements.
