Course Approval:

NITA is an approved training school by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). NITA's California school license number is ATG 2939 with Jeff Dingle as our approved instructor in California. We are approved to offer the required security licensing in California.

Course Description

This 32-hour course includes 16 hours of mandatory training and 16 hours of elective training from CA BSIS. This is the required training for licensure after your initial guard card registration.

  • BSIS Mandatory Training: Public Relations, Observation/Documentation, Communication and Liability/Legal Issues
  • BSIS Elective Training: Officer Safety, Crowd Control, Incident Scene/Evidence and Officer Fire Safety

Security Professionals play a critical role in maintaining and restoring order in various situations. As a licensed Security Guard in California, after your powers to arrest training, you are required to complete an additional 32 hours of training for licensure. (16 hours within 30 days, and 16 hours within 6 months). NITA offers all of this board-approved training in one course, available online for your convenience. Our online training follows all guidelines from the BSIS CA Code of Regulations (Section 643, Title 16, Division 7).

Available in a 100% online format that lets you learn whenever and wherever you want, this course provides an in-depth review of how to handle public relations as a Security Guard, observation/documentation, the significance of communication, liability and legal issues, officer safety, crowd control, incident scene, and fire safety.

Course Completion

All courses include an end-of-course examination. Students must pass the exam for each topic above to receive credit for the training. Certificates will be available online immediately for all students.

What's included in the California Security Guard Card Training?

Licensed Security Guards in California are required to complete an additional 32 hours of training within 6 months of licensure once you submit your CA BSIS Guard Card Application.  16 hours need to be completed within the first 30 days and the second 16 hours within 6 months of licensure.

Are NITA courses Board and State-Approved?

Yes, NITA's courses are state and board-approved by each state's licensing entity in over 35 states.  Board-approved course offerings, where applicable by state, include pre-licensing training and continuing education.

Is NITA’s training completed entirely online, or are there in-person requirements?

NITA's courses are 100% online.  There are no in-person classes or physical attendance requirements. All classes are on-demand, except for our Florida Security trainings and our live, instructor-led trainings, which are online through Zoom. Everything you need to complete your training is available through our online learning platform.

What requirements are needed to begin a course with NITA?

What do I receive when I complete the course?

Upon successfully completing the course and passing the exam, NITA will issue you a Certificate of Completion. This certificate is typically required as part of your state license application. Details on how your certificate is delivered are included in each course description.

Can I take a NITA course if I have no prior experience in investigations or security?

Absolutely. NITA's pre-licensing courses are designed for people entering the field for the first time. No prior experience is required. The curriculum is built to take you from the basics through everything you need to meet your state's licensing requirements.
