Florida
Class D License: To work as an unarmed security guard in Florida, you’ll need to earn your Class D Security Officer License. FDACS requires all applicants to complete a 40-hour security guard training course through a licensed security officer school—like NITA.

Class G License: To work as an armed security guard in Florida, you need to earn your Class G license. Earning a Class G Security License requires an additional 28 hours of firearms training and a valid firearms permit.

California
Guard Card: A guard card is required to work as a security professional in California. To earn your guard card, you must first complete 8 hours of classroom instruction on powers to arrest before being hired. Then, you must complete 16 hours of mandatory training and 16 hours of elective training from CA BSIS. You must complete 16 hours within 30 days and the additional 16 hours within 6 months.

Armed Security Guard Card: You need both a guard card and a BSIS firearm permit to be an armed guard in California. This requires 14 hours of Bureau-approved firearm training, which includes 8 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of range training.
Texas
Level II (Non-Commissioned Security Guard): Level II Texas security guards are unarmed and have completed a minimum of six hours of instruction from a licensed training school. You must first be hired by a security company before completing your Level II training.

Beyond the Level II license, Texas security guards can also aspire to Level III (Commissioned Security Guard) or Level IV (Personal Protection Officer) licensure. These licenses can provide more career opportunities and better pay.
Georgia
Unarmed Security Guards: Georgia security guards must complete 24 hours of approved classroom training in order to work, but no formal licensure is required.

Armed Security Guards: Armed guards in Georgia must earn their Weapons Carry License (WCL) by completing 15 hours of firearms training in addition to the 24 hours of classroom instruction.
